The Kaduna State Police Command has announced the arrest of 12 suspected bandits and the neutralisation of four others during a gun duel in Ikara Local Government Area of the state.
The command also reported the rescue of two kidnapped victims and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and two locally made guns.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Hassan Mansir, said operatives also recovered three sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to the statement, on September 16, 2026, acting on credible intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ikara led police operatives, alongside members of the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS), to the residence of one Haruna Yakubu in Yoromowa, Auchanawa Village.
The operatives reportedly encountered armed resistance upon arrival, leading to a gunfight.
The command said four suspected kidnappers were neutralised during the operation, while two kidnapped victims were rescued.
The deceased suspects were identified as Kabiru Haruna, Suleman Abdulkarim, Yusuf Haruna, also known as Burgagau, all from Yoromowa, Auchanawa Village, and another unidentified suspect.
The operation also led to the arrest of 12 suspects and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle.
The police said the arrested suspects were assisting investigators in determining their individual roles and uncovering the wider network allegedly linked to the criminal activities.
CLEARANCE OPERATION IN MAKARFI
The command also disclosed that on September 15, 2026, the DPO in Makarfi led a joint clearance operation with KADVS personnel around the Arabu Forest Reserve in Makarfi Local Government Area.
The operation covered the route from Durum through Nasarawan Doya to the Arabu River Bank, bordering Soba Local Government Area.
According to the police, the area was thoroughly cleared of suspected criminal elements.
During the operation, officers recovered two locally made guns, three sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and a military camouflage T-shirt reportedly abandoned in the area.
The command said the joint patrol and clearance operation was still ongoing to prevent criminal elements from regrouping or establishing hideouts in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Rabiu, commended the personnel of the command, KADVS and vigilante groups involved in the operations, as well as members of the public whose timely information contributed to the success.
Rabiu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling kidnapping networks, rescuing victims and restoring lasting peace across Kaduna State.
