The Delta State High Court has denied the bail application filed by social media content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu Asaba,” in connection with the death of 20-year-old Favour Agbro.
The ruling was delivered on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Following the decision, Ogbonna will remain remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Maximum Correctional Centre pending the conclusion of his trial over allegations including rape, physical assault and the death of Agbro.
The development was confirmed by Awele Ideal, the pro bono legal counsel representing the victim’s family.
According to Ideal, the defence team filed an application for temporary release approximately three weeks ago, but the prosecution and representatives of the victim’s family opposed the request through a counter-affidavit.
After considering arguments from both sides, the presiding judge reportedly rejected the bail application, citing the seriousness of the allegations and public interest.
Ogbonna was transferred from police custody to the correctional facility on September 4, 2026, following the inclusion of official autopsy and toxicology reports in the case file by the Delta State Police Command.
He was arrested in July 2026 after Agbro reportedly recorded a video before her death, identifying him as the person she accused of abusing her.
Police investigations alleged that on June 1, 2026, Ogbonna invited Agbro from Warri to Asaba under the pretext of mentoring her in digital content creation. She was subsequently lodged in a hotel, where the alleged assault was said to have occurred.
The Delta State Ministry of Justice, through the Office of the Attorney General and the Director of Public Prosecutions, has taken over the prosecution of the case, with the stated aim of ensuring an expedited trial.
